On-Demand: Aggression in Play Therapy
When Big Feelings Become Big Play: A Child-Centered Approach to Aggression in Play Therapy
Service Description
Aggression in the play therapy room can be challenging for clinicians to navigate with confidence. This 1-hour on-demand training explores how play therapists can understand and respond to aggressive play through the principles of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) and Landreth's relationship-based model. Participants will examine common forms and themes of aggressive play and learn how to respond without rushing to interpret, redirect, or eliminate the child's play. The course emphasizes practical CCPT skills, including tracking, reflection of content and feelings, encouragement, returning responsibility to the child, and therapeutic limit setting when behavior becomes unsafe. Grounded in Landreth's practice and research and supported by current literature, this course will help clinicians distinguish between symbolic aggressive play and behavior requiring limits while maintaining a safe, accepting, and therapeutically responsive play environment.
